East Link - with travel hub at Skavsta
The East Link is a new doubletrack railway between Järna and Linköping built by the Swedish Transport Administration. A travel hub is planned at Skavsta near the airport terminal buildning. The picture is a vision picture of the new travel hub Skavsta.
Easy to change between trains, planes and buses
With a travel hub at Skavsta it will be easy to change between trains, planes and buses. The railway has therefore been placed as close to the airport's terminal building as possible to facilitate smooth changes. In connection with the construction of the railway, roads will also be redone and traffic flows in and out of the Skavsta area will change.
All in all, the East Link and new roads will improve accessibility for those who work and work in Skavsta and those who travel to and from the area.
What´s next?
Preparatory work is already underway in the area, and at Stockholm Skavsta Airport adaptations are being made to the airport environment to enable the construction of the East Link. Among other things, preparations are being made for the relocation of the current long-term parking lot (P3). The Swedish Transport Administration has excavated the upper part of the current parking area. Hangars in the nearby area will be demolished to make room for a new long-term car park. It will be completed in the autumn of 2025 and include, to begin with, about 800 parking spaces.
Developing Skavsta Travel hub and connecting terminals for buses, trains and airport is a joint effort between Stockholm Skavsta Flygplats AB, the Swedish Transport Administration, Region Sörmland and Nyköping Municipality.
The railway will be built in stages. The Swedish Transport Administration expects to have an agreement with the contractor ready in August 2025 for the section through Skavsta. Construction is expected to start in 2026. The travel hub at Skavsta will be opened in 2032.
